Reimbursements - Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
When can I request an aid?
Certain devices are reimbursed from the basic insurance of the health insurers.
You can claim this reimbursement if you meet the indications to be eligible for an aid.
You must have a medical indication (prescription) from the treating physician, optometrist, orthoptist, or healthcare professional at an institution specializing in the rehabilitation of blind and partially sighted people. The doctor or optometrist must also indicate on the prescription any limitations and the desired provision. The following guidelines apply:
It must be clearly described in what form the insured is visually impaired.
This is done by means of a detailed description of the visual impairment and, if applicable, the residual vision.
Do I need a new medical certificate for each application?
You need a separate medical certificate for each aid you request. The medical certificate refers to specific function-oriented provisions or devices, including their necessity and effectiveness. These differ for each application, so the health insurer requires a medical certificate for each aid application. If the replacement is for the same aid outside the specified use period and was previously supplied by us, you do not need a new certificate. We already have the medical certificate, and the replacement can proceed immediately.
What is the difference between loan and ownership?
You will receive ownership of certain medical devices. These devices are yours; you are the owner. A deductible applies devices provided as your property. Please note that this deductible will always be deducted from your outstanding deductible.
Have you opted for a voluntary deductible? Then your health insurer will first deduct the costs from your mandatory deductible and then from your voluntary deductible. Once you've met your deductible, this care will be covered by your insurance up to the maximum amount for which you are insured. The deductible applies to insured persons aged 18 and over.
devices are provided on loan. This means you may use them as long as you are a customer of the health insurer providing the care. After that, you must return them. Therefore, you do not become the owner of these devices.
