Prescriber
The indication for the initial provision of a blind cane must be established by the treating physician, optometrist, orthoptist or healthcare professional at an institution specialising in the rehabilitation of blind and partially sighted people.
Eligibility for a blind cane is indicated if the insured person has a visual impairment and relies on this aid for mobility.
Documentation
The medical report must clearly describe the insured person's visual impairment. This must include a detailed description of the visual impairment and a medical explanation for the need for the aid.
Procedure
Submit your application to Worldwide Vision. Worldwide Vision will assess your application based on your insurer's guidelines.
For special lightweight canes, an additional motivation with medical necessity must be provided.
Deductible
Reimbursement from your basic health insurance policy is subject to your deductible. If you've opted for a voluntary deductible, your health insurer will first offset the costs against your mandatory deductible and then against your voluntary deductible. Once you've met your deductible, this care will be covered by your insurance up to the maximum amount for which you are insured. The deductible applies to insured individuals aged 18 and over.
